Although the summit was billed as a high-stakes effort to broker a ceasefire, no formal announcement regarding a cessation of hostilities was made. In a post-meeting news conference, Putin referred to an unspecified “agreement,” while Trump described the talks as having made “great progress.” However, neither leader mentioned a ceasefire.

Trump-Putin summit in Alaska, Zelenskyy absent

The summit, held at the U.S. military base in Alaska, notably did not include Ukrainian President Zelenskyy. President Trump told reporters he planned to call Zelenskyy to brief him on the outcome of the discussions.

Despite the presence of hundreds of journalists, both Trump and Putin declined to take questions following their joint appearance. The two leaders exchanged a brief handshake before exiting the stage.

The summit and Melania Trump’s letter have added a personal and humanitarian dimension to the ongoing diplomatic efforts, though concrete outcomes remain unclear.
