A double-decker bus carrying more than 60 passengers in central Peru, South America, reportedly crashed and landed upside down after careening over a slope, killing at least 18 people and injuring 48.

Peru tragedy: 18 killed, 48 injured
According to the Associated Press, the region’s Health Director, Clifor Curipaco, disclosed that the bus was traveling from Lima towards the country’s Amazon forests, specifically in the Junín region, on Friday, July 25, when the tragedy occurred.
Yahoo News reported that the bus, owned by the company Expreso Molina Líder Internacional, was carrying more than 60 people when it crashed into a ravine.

Peru accident: Authorities commence investigation
Reports confirmed that authorities are still investigating the cause of the incident.
A video of the tragic crash shows police and rescue workers sifting through wreckage and attempting to maneuver themselves inside the overturned vehicle.
The footage shows the bus split in two in the wake of the fall.
As reported by People, report from the country’s Attorney General’s office stated that recklessness and excessive speed are the leading causes of vehicular accidents in Peru.

Many feared dead in Anambra road accident
Similarly, Legit.ng reported that a fatal accident that occurred in Anambra state on Friday, July 25, claimed the lives of many bystanders, including night traders.
Eyewitnesses disclosed that the truck driver lost control and collided with pedestrians on the roadside, killing many people.
The spokesperson for the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Anambra sector, Margaret Onabe, confirmed the incident on Saturday, July 26, and shared further details.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng reported that five people were confirmed dead and nine others injured in a tragic road crash involving a Mazda bus and a truck on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.
A separate petrol tanker explosion at the NASFAT junction injured two people and destroyed six vehicles, causing widespread traffic disruption.
Another tanker and an 18-tyre truck fell near Ogere Bridge, further compounding the day’s traffic woes with extensive road blockage.
