Execution for espionage linked to Israel’s June attacks
The man, identified as Rouzbeh Vadi, was accused of passing sensitive information to Israeli intelligence, including details about a nuclear scientist who was killed during Israel’s air strikes on Iran in June.
According to Mizan, Vadi had been employed within one of Iran’s “important and sensitive organisations,” though the report did not specify which.

The judiciary stated that Vadi had “committed a wide range of crimes against the country’s internal and external security which have caused severe disruption to public order”.
Surge in executions for spying in Iran
Vadi’s execution is part of a growing trend in Iran, where authorities have significantly increased the number of executions for espionage, particularly involving alleged ties to Israel.
At least eight individuals have been executed in recent months on similar charges, according to official sources.
Backdrop of escalating Iran-Israel conflict
The execution comes in the wake of heightened military conflict between Iran and Israel. In June, Israel launched 12 consecutive days of air strikes targeting Iranian generals and nuclear scientists.
Iran responded with a series of missile and drone attacks, further deepening the regional crisis.
Israel-Iran War
The Israel–Iran war, often referred to as the Twelve-Day War, erupted in June 2025 following years of escalating tensions and proxy confrontations.
The conflict began when Israel launched a surprise wave of airstrikes targeting Iran’s nuclear facilities, military infrastructure, and top commanders, including the assassination of senior figures in the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps.
Iran retaliated with hundreds of ballistic missiles and suicide drones aimed at Israeli cities and military sites, while allied groups such as the Houthis also joined the fray.
The United States intervened on Israel’s behalf, conducting strikes on Iranian nuclear sites and defending against incoming attacks. The war displaced tens of thousands of civilians on both sides and left a trail of destruction across the region.
Though a ceasefire was eventually declared, the conflict depicted the deep-rooted ideological and strategic rivalry between the two nations, with lasting implications for Middle Eastern stability.
