AC Milan Make Final Decision on Boniface as Super Eagles Striker Returns to Bayer Leverkusen

AC Milan have reportedly decided against signing Super Eagles striker Victor Boniface after extensive medical tests revealed lingering concerns with his right knee.
The Rossoneri had agreed a season-long loan from Bayer Leverkusen worth €5 million, with an option to buy set at €30 million, but the deal has collapsed at the final stage.

Boniface underwent extensive examinations at Milan’s Centro Ambrosiano and the Galeazzi Orthopaedic Institute, where specialists flagged reduced strength and stability in his right knee, previously operated on twice following anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injuries.
Despite his recent injury setbacks being mostly muscular, AC Milan’s medical staff deemed the risk too high and advised the Italian giants not to go ahead with the deal, Sempre Milan reports.
Boniface returns to Bayer Leverkusen
With AC Milan pulling the plug on the deal, Boniface has now returned to Bayer Leverkusen, where he remains under contract until 2028.

According to Football Today, the Super Eagles striker had been preparing to join the Rossoneri after personal terms were agreed, but Milan’s medical and technical teams concluded that investing heavily in a player with such a history of knee problems was not in the club’s best interest.
Boniface had looked set for a fresh challenge in Serie A after an impressive first season in Germany, but his fitness record ultimately counted against him.
Football transfer expert, Fabrizio Romano today confirmed the medical but suggested that the deal may still be on.
For Leverkusen, his return means a boost in attacking depth ahead of their Bundesliga season, while Milan must go back into the transfer market in search of reinforcements.
Milan turn attention to other targets
The decision not to proceed with Boniface has forced Milan to weigh up their attacking options.
Reports suggest the Serie A giants are keen on bringing in two new forwards before the close of the summer transfer window.
Manchester United striker Rasmus Hojlund, who has also been on Napoli’s radar, is among the names under consideration, while Sporting CP’s Conrad Harder has also emerged as a possible target.
Milan’s decision to strengthen their attack comes after a disappointing 2-1 loss to newly promoted Cremonese in their Serie A opener.
The Rossoneri will be eager to bounce back against Leece on Friday, but pressure is mounting on the club’s directors to deliver a reliable striker capable of leading their title push.
AC Milan warned against signing Boniface
Earlier, Legit.ng reported that AC Milan have been cautioned against securing the services of Victor Boniface for the 2025/26 Serie A season.
An Italian newspaper revealed that Boniface suffered two ligament injuries during his three-year stint in the Norwegian league between 2019 and 2022.
