Former Super Eagles and Chelsea midfielder John Mikel Obi has shared his predictions for three key Premier League matches in the second week of the 2025/26 season.

Known for his insightful analysis, the former defensive midfielder, who made 249 Premier League appearances for Chelsea, shared his thoughts on the West Ham vs Chelsea, Manchester City vs Tottenham Hotspur, and Burnley vs Sunderland matches.

London clubs West Ham and Chelsea seek their first league win after disappointing opening matches, while Manchester City and Sunderland aim to maintain their strong starts.

West Ham United were thrashed 3-0 by the newly promoted Sunderland, while Chelsea's game against Crystal Palace ended in a goalless draw.

As the teams head into Match Day 2, Mikel believes the Blues will get all three points against the Hammers, in the clash tagged London derby.

Following a 4-1 win over Ipswich Town, Pep Guardiola's Manchester City are expected to continue with their winning run when they take on Tottenham.

Mikel also tipped Sunderland to maintain their good start to the campaign, predicting their outright win over Burnley.

The former Nigerian international said on his Obione Podcast. He said:

“Here is my prediction for the second week of the Premier League. I'm going to go with the Friday night kick-off; West Ham host Chelsea. I'm gonna go for a Chelsea win.
"Then on Saturday, I'm gonna go for Man City to beat Tottenham Hotspur. My last prediction is going to be Burnley vs Sunderland; I'm gonna go for a Sunderland win."

Meanwhile, Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca, speaking during his press conference as quoted by Chelsea TV, confirmed five players will not make the travelling squad for the match at the London Olympic Stadium.

Legit.ng earlier reported that Mikel recently reached out to Nicolas Jackson amid rumours that the Senegalese striker is set to leave Stamford Bridge.

Following the arrival of two new strikers at the club, Mikel urged the Senegalese to remain at the club, saying the 24-year-old is needed.
