Despite the pressure, hope is not lost for Nigeria as Primate Elijah Ayodele, Leader of the INRI Evangelical Spiritual Church, believes Nigeria can still make it to the World Cup.

The prophet says picking the ticket to the global football tournament is possible if certain changes are made immediately by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) and head coach Eric Chelle.

1. Change of captaincy

The prophet advised that William Troost-Ekong should not lead the team in the remaining qualifiers, suggesting a leadership switch could improve morale and direction on the pitch.

2. Back-up goalie for Nwabali

Primate Ayodele also stressed the importance of having a capable back-up for first-choice goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali, warning that depending solely on him could be risky if injuries or loss of form occur.

3. More reinforcement in attack

Ayodele emphasised the need for another top-quality striker alongside Victor Osimhen and urged the NFF to inject fresh energy by introducing five new Nigerian players into the squad.

Primate Ayodele insisted that his message be relayed directly to NFF President Ibrahim Gusau, warning that failure to act could end Nigeria’s World Cup dream.

“There is nothing stopping Nigeria from going to the World Cup, except they don’t listen,” he declared.

The prophet insists that meeting these conditions is vital not only for World Cup qualification but also for a possible Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) victory in Morocco.

Tough matches ahead for Super Eagles

The Super Eagles’ next games will be decisive as they will determine if Nigeria will return to the next World Cup after missing the 2022 tournament in Qatar.

On September 6, 2025, Nigeria will host Rwanda in a must-win clash before travelling to face table-toppers South Africa just three days later.
