Arne Slot led the Reds to the title last season and has received backing in the transfer market with new players, including Florian Wirtz and Hugo Ekitike, amongst others.

The champions have also had to deal with the unfortunate passing of Diogo Jota, who died in a car accident alongside his brother André Silva last month.

Crouch predicts Premier League Golden Boot winners

Former England international forward Peter Crouch has named five players he thinks could be the highest goalscorer at the end of the 2025/26 season in May.

“The favourites for the Golden Boot will be Alexander Isak, if he gets his situation sorted out, Erling Haaland and Mo Salah, the same old faces,” he said as quoted by Express UK.

Alexander Isak is the only one not to have won a Golden Boot among the three. Salah has won four, while Haaland has won it twice.

Crouch added Arsenal and Manchester United’s new strikers, Viktor Gyokeres and Benjamin Sesko, as the other two players he looks out for in the race.

“But out of the new faces, Sesko is the one that I like watching. I'm excited by him. There's still the fact that he hasn't played in the Premier League, and that is something that you have to look at,” he said.

“Can he settle straight away? But he's the player that excites me the most out of the new signings.”

As noted by Transfermarkt, Sesko’s highest scoring league season was the 2022/23 season, in which he scored 16 league goals for RB Leipzig in the Bundesliga.

This tally would not win the Premier League Golden Boot in any of the seasons since 1992, and considering the difficulty of the Premier League, he has work to do to prove Crouch right.

Crouch also noted that Arsenal's new forward Gyokeres could be in the race as he is a proven goalscorer and could help Mikel Arteta’s side cross the title line.

“He's a proven goal scorer. He went out to Sporting and scored loads of goals, and I'm sure he can do the same for Arsenal. But how quickly will he settle?” he concluded.

A top Nigerian journalist based in the United Kingdom disagrees with Crouch on the two new signings named in the Golden Boot race.

“I agree with Mohamed Salah and Erling Haaland, but I'll not put the other three in the running for the Golden Boot, because of different circumstances,” he told Legit.ng.
“Unless Isak moves to Liverpool, he would not settle at Newcastle to be able to challenge. Sesko and Gyokeres will find England different from where they are coming from, hence are unlikely to be in the race.”

The Manchester United manager endured a difficult end to last season, has been backed in the transfer market and will be under instant pressure to deliver.
