Days After Tinubu’s $100K, N30m From Ondo, Falcons Star Bags Chieftaincy Title in Lagos
- Tosin Demehin has been honoured with a prestigious chieftaincy title by Oba Kayode Aiyetiwa of Bariga in Lagos
- Days earlier, she received N30 million and a house from Ondo State Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa for her role in Nigeria’s 10th WAFCON title win
- Each member of the Super Falcons squad earlier got a $100,000 gift from President Bola Tinubu after their success in Morocco
Super Falcons defender Tosin Demehin has been conferred with a prestigious chieftaincy title in the Bariga area of Lagos, Nigeria.
The honour comes days after President Bola Tinubu rewarded each member of the Nigerian women's national football team with a $100,000 gift for their triumphant performance at the 2025 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).
They also received national honours, including the Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON), as well as three-bedroom apartments each.

Demehin expressed profound gratitude for the chieftaincy as she went on to describe it as "more than a title".

The 23-year-old wrote on X:
"With deep gratitude and a heart full of pride, I’m deeply honoured to share that I have been officially conferred with the prestigious title of "Yeye Akeweje Ilaje" by His Royal Majesty, the Oba of Bariga High Chief Kayode Aiyetiwa.
"This is more than a title — it’s a call to inspire, lead and uplift the youth of our beloved Ilaje community.
"I’m humbled and grateful for this recognition and the opportunity to serve in this new capacity."
A product of Rivers Angels in the Nigeria Women’s Football League, the 23-year-old has become a key player in the Super Falcons since her debut in 2022.
She was part of the squad for the 2023 FIFA Women's World Cup and also made the team for the Olympic Games in 2024.
At the 2024 WAFCON, the Ondo state indigene featured in all six games for the Super Falcons during the tournament and even scored her first-ever goal for Nigeria in the 5-0 quarter-final victory over Zambia.
Meanwhile, Nigerian football fan Adeyanju Yakubu applauded the Bariga council of chiefs for rewarding the player. Adeyaju told Legit.ng:
"What a fantastic player she is. I have seen her play at this stadium (Surulere national stadium) on a few occasions, and all I can say is that she deserves everything coming her way right now."
Demehin gets N30m, house from Ondo
Recall that Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa of Ondo State also rewarded the Super Falcons defender Tosin Demehin with N30 million and a house for her exceptional performance at the WAFCON, Vanguard reports.

The announcement was made during a civic reception in Akure to honour Ondo State natives who contributed to the Super Falcons’ triumphant campaign.
Alongside Demehin, the governor also rewarded the team's media officer, Mary Akinsola, as well as the team secretary, with N15 million each in recognition of their roles in Nigeria’s historic victory at the tournament.
MTN splashes cash on Super Falcons
Legit.ng earlier reported that telecommunications giant, MTN, has joined the list of brands making donations to the Super Falcons stars after the team won their 10th Women's Africa Cup of Nations.
The players and technical crew members were hosted to a breakfast in Lagos on Thursday morning, during which the brand donated ₦150 million to the team.
