The 2025/26 Premier League season is 10 days away from commencing, and a supercomputer has predicted the champion and other key positions.

Arsenal, which has finished second in three consecutive seasons, will hope to take it a step further, while Manchester United hopes to avoid another embarrassing season.

World champions Chelsea are one of the favourites, having not won the title since 2016/17, while Manchester City hope to hit consistency this season.

Newly-promoted sides Sunderland, Leeds United and Burnley will fight to stay in the league next season after the three promoted teams dropped immediately.

Supercomputer predicts 2025/26 Premier League

According to Opta Analyst, a supercomputer simulated the season 10,000 times, and it predicted that Liverpool will retain their title next season.

The simulation backed the Merseyside club to win the league with a 28.5% chance, while Arsenal have a 24.3% chance of winning, though their likely finish is still a second place.

Manchester City, which won the title four times in a row before Liverpool broke their monopoly, have an 18.8% chance of winning and potentially could finish third again.

World champions Chelsea are backed to win their first title since the 2016/17 season with an 8.8% chance, but their best possibility outside of that is another fourth-place finish.

Liverpool, Arsenal, Manchester City and Chelsea are expected to qualify for the UEFA Champions League in the 2026/27 season, while Aston Villa are the fifth team if England retains its five slots.

Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur, which finished 15th and 16th in the league last season, have 0.6 and 0.3% chances of winning the title.

Both sides are predicted to improve on their league positions from last season, with the Red Devils finishing 12th and Tottenham finishing 14th this year.

In the last two seasons, all newly-promoted teams were relegated. Opta’s supercomputer predicts that the scenario will happen again with Leeds, Burnley and Sunderland expected to drop.

Premier League teams' spending

According to The Athletic, Premier League teams have spent £1.8 billion in transfer fees this summer, and unsurprisingly, champions Liverpool are top of the spending table.

Federico Chiesa, for £13 million, was the only addition to the squad last season, but Arne Slot has spent £252.2m, including breaking the British transfer record for £116m Florian Wirtz.

Chelsea, for the third consecutive summer, have invested heavily and have spent £240.2 million, with Xavi Simons and Alejandro Garnacho still to come.
