Super Falcons star Asisat Oshoala has sent a subtle message to the Lagos State government after her teammates from Imo State received huge cash and lands from Governor Hope Uzodinma.
The Nigerian women’s national football team clinched their 10th Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) title in a highly intense 3-2 victory over Morocco.
The team received national honours and rewards from President Bola Tinubu, including $100,000 and three-bedroom flats for each player, per the State House.

Governor Uzodinma hosted a grand reception at the Government House in Owerri, in celebration of the seven Imo-born Super Falcons players, including Chiamaka Nnadozie, Jennifer Echegini, Osinachi Ohale, Tochukwu Oluehi, Chinwendu Ihezuo, Anam Imo, and Esther Okoronkwo.
Each of the ladies received ₦30 million and a plot of land in Owerri, while assistant coach Ann Chiejine was awarded ₦10 million.
Michelle Alozie, another Imo native, was absent due to commitments in the United States.
The governor praised the players’ resilience and said their contributions rekindled national pride. However, striker Asisat Oshoala has reacted to Uzodinma's decision to reward only Imo-born players.
The six-time African Women’s Footballer of the Year took to Instagram with a cryptic post:
“My Imo sisters dey hot oo ….God abeg #Lagosian.”
A staunch Super Falcons fan, Chinemerem Mba, urged other governors to reward players from their respective states. She told Legit.ng:
"What Governor Uzodinma has done is good, and I hope other state governors can emulate this to motivate their indigenes. Other players also deserve to be celebrated."
Earlier, the Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, issued a congratulatory statement after the team won the title.
Fans have taken to the comment section of the post by Oshoala to react.

"Tho, one side of me doesn’t see any wrong in that, it’s just people appreciating their people without any sentimental agenda attached."
