The Super Eagles forward thanked the club’s fans for their support over the past three years and recalled memorable moments, particularly the historic UEFA Europa League triumph in Dublin.
“Over the past three years at Atalanta, I’ve given absolutely everything,” Lookman wrote.
“I have loved every moment but feel that now, after three wonderful years in Bergamo, it is the right time to move on and experience a new adventure. Despite now receiving an offer in alignment with what I believe had been discussed, sadly the club are blocking the opportunity for reasons I do not understand.”
Lookman further confirmed that after months of unfulfilled promises and feeling disrespected by Atalanta’s hierarchy, he had “no choice but to speak out” and formally request a transfer.

“Despite now receiving an offer in alignment to what I believe had been discussed sadly the club are blocking the opportunity for reasons I do not understand.
“As a result, and after many months of broken promises and what I feel has been poor treatment towards me as both a human being and as a professional footballer, sadly, I feel I have no choice but to speak out for what I believe is right, and I feel that enough is enough. I can confirm I have now handed in a formal transfer request.”
The message strongly suggested a breakdown in trust between Lookman and Atalanta’s management.
Lookman deserves better treatment from Atalanta
In a chat with Legit.ng, UK-based Nigerian journalist Samuel Omaenikun stated that Lookman deserves better from Atalanta following the forward’s reported transfer request.
“Lookman has been a consistent game-changer for Atalanta, delivering in big moments and showing loyalty to the club,” Omaenikun said.
“It’s disappointing to see a player of his calibre pushed to the point of requesting a move. He deserves a club that not only values his talent but also supports his ambition to reach the highest levels of European football.”
Lookman faces an uncertain future
According to Football Italia, Lookman has already been excluded from Atalanta’s recent pre-season matches, and his decision to delete his social media accounts of all Atalanta-related content shows the seriousness of the fallout.
The tension has created a standoff that could dominate headlines well into the transfer window.
Atalanta, known for their firm stance in transfer dealings, are yet to issue an official response to Lookman’s statement.
