Super Falcons coach Justine Madugu has received a hero’s welcome in his home state after guiding the Super Falcons to their record-extending 10th Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) title.

The Adamawa State Government rewarded the coach with ₦50 million and a three-bedroom bungalow during a colourful ceremony at the Government House in Yola on Friday, August 1.

"We are proud of Coach Madugu for bringing glory not just to Nigeria but to Adamawa State," the governor said.
"His leadership and tactical brilliance have once again placed our state on the continental map."

The governor emphasised that the recognition was not only a reward for the coach’s hard work but also an inspiration to young people in the state who aspire to make an impact on the national and international stage.

Madugu, visibly moved by the honour, expressed gratitude to the state government and people of Adamawa.

"I’m overwhelmed by what is happening today. I thank God and the government of Adamawa State for this recognition," he said.

The Nigerian women’s national football team coach also noted that his mission was to prove that northerners could excel at the highest levels of football management, leaving a legacy that inspires future generations.

Madugu’s recognition comes shortly after the Super Falcons returned from Morocco, where they staged a dramatic 3-2 comeback win against the host nation in the WAFCON 2024 final to clinch Nigeria’s 10th continental title, Punch reports.

The win prompted a national celebration led by President Bola Tinubu, who hosted the team at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

The Players also received $100,000 each, while Madugu and the rest of the technical crew were awarded $50,000, national honours, and residential apartments.

The victory further cements the Super Falcons’ status as Africa’s most successful women’s football team, while also spotlighting the importance of celebrating and investing in local coaching talent like Madugu, whose journey from Numan Local Government Area to continental glory is nothing short of inspirational.
