Liverpool retired Diogo Jota's number 20, but one of his former teammates, James Milner, has chosen the number at fellow Premier League side Brighton.

“Once I heard Carlos (Baleba) was looking to change his number and 20 was available, I wanted to do it as a mark of respect and obviously pay tribute to Diogo Jota,” Milner said as quoted by This Is Anfield.

Portugal FA Chief defends Cristiano Ronaldo

Cristiano Ronaldo was absent at Jota’s funeral, raising questions in the media about why Portugal's captain and greatest player missed the event.

Portugal FA chief Pedro Proenca has defended the Al-Nassr superstar, claiming the backlash for his absence is an immense injustice.

“It's an immense injustice to say that Cristiano, in some way, played a more detached role in this," he said, as quoted by GB News.
“From the very beginning, the captain was with us and was one of the people who most closely connected with the national team family, with Jota's own blood family.”
