He led the club to win their first Italian Serie A title in 33 years during the 2022/23 season under former Italian manager Luciano Spalletti.

He scored 26 league goals, thus winning the Golden Boot, popularly referred to as Capocannoniere in Italy and was named in the team of the season.

Napoli bids farewell to Osimhen

In a rather short message on their website, Napoli announced the Nigerian striker's exit to Galatasaray:

“SSCN announces that an agreement has been reached with Galatasaray for the permanent transfer of Victor Osimhen,” the statement reads.

Their statement was accompanied by a video on their Instagram page of some of his best moments for the club with the caption “Thank you, Victor”.

Osimhen's relationship deteriorated after the title-winning season in 2023, following the departure of Spalletti, and it broke down totally by the summer of 2024.

He vowed never to play for the club again despite Antonio Conte’s efforts to keep him after taking over as the new manager at the start of the 2023/24 season.

One of the incidents that led to the sour relationship was when Napoli's official TikTok account trolled him for a penalty miss against Bologna.

Napoli also botched lucrative moves to Paris Saint-Germain and Al-Ahli last summer, frustrating the Nigerian forward before his loan move to Galatasaray.

Osimhen sends message to Napoli

Osimhen replicated Napoli’s short message after his departure, with a short message to the club on his Instagram page.

He shared five images from his time at the club and captioned them “Grazie Per Tutto”, which translates to “Thank you for everything.”

In other news, Napoli inserted a clause that prevents Galatasaray from selling the Nigerian striker to Italian rivals in three years, and unless they meet in the UEFA Champions League, their paths will not cross soon.
