Super Falcons got a rosy welcome when they arrived in Lagos after winning the 2024 Women's Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).

Nigeria beat Morocco 3-2 in the 13th WAFCON final to win their historic 10th title on Saturday night, July 28.

President Bola Tinubu hosted the players, rewarding them with the sum of NGN152 million each, a national honour known as Officer of the Order of the Niger, and a three-bedroom apartment.

In addition, the Nigeria Governors Forum (NGF) led by Mallam Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq announced the cash reward of NGN10 million for each players while six Super Eagles players pledged the sum of NGN1 million each to the 24 Super Falcons team, per Punch.

Fans welcome Super Falcons in Lagos

Ten-time WAFCON champions, the Super Falcons, landed in Lagos, as fans and well-wishers welcomed the team with drumming and dancing.

Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu held a trophy parade in honour of the team as they waved to the excited fans, with cheers and laughter.

The players grooved to the music while they went round the commercial capital, Vanguard.

Super Falcons player cautions teammate

Super Falcons defender Oluwatosin Demehin warned Jennifer Echegini against opening the window during the trophy parade in Lagos.

In a post on X, Demehin informed Echegini that her phone can be snatched by miscreants who posed as well-wishers.

The Galatasaray star questioned the Paris Saint-Germain midfielder of the difference between Lagos and Abuja. She said:

"No open the window, na Lagos you dey, dem fit thief your phone na Lagos we dey siddon. Wetin you fit talk say e the differene between Lagos and Abuja.

Super Falcon’s WAFCON cash prize

Legit.ng earlier reported that the prize pool for the 13th edition of the Women's Africa Cup of Nations was $3,475,000, a 45% increase from the previous edition.

Winners Nigeria will receive $1 million (₦1.5 billion), while the runner-up, the Atlas Lionesses, will receive $500,000. The Black Queens of Ghana, which defeated South Africa in the third-place match, earned $35,000, while Bayana Bayana earned $300,000.
