It has also been gathered that each team member and official will receive a flat in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), per The Cable.
Nigeria’s D’Tigress won the women’s AfroBasket title, defeating Mali 78-64 in the final on Sunday at the Palais des Sports de Treichville in Abidjan.
The triumph confirms Nigeria as the only country to win the title five consecutive times. Meanwhile, the team secured an automatic ticket to the 2026 FIBA Women’s World Cup in Berlin, Germany.
The presidency also honoured all members of the team with the Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON) award.
Also at the event were First Lady Oluremi Tinubu, Chief of Staff Femi Gbajabiamila, Senate Committee on Youths and Sports Development Chairman Garba Maidoki, and House Committee on Sports Chairman Kabiru Amadou.
Meanwhile, Nigerians have continued to react to the gesture from the presidency. @femyek said:
"Thank you @officialABAT for this honor and gifts given to our champions. Now, pls package something for the personnel and officers of our law enforcement agencies, especially those fighting insurgency and insurrection across the country. They are our champions and heroes too."
@adeyanju_f83140 added:
"When federal government rewarded the Nigerians that represented the country in the just concluded sport festival with such huge amount of money and those gallant soldiers that defended the country ,which is the major contribution to our dear country, were not even compensated."
@Danimoe6 suggested:
"This is a good gesture, but then, our soldiers who sacrificed a lot for the country called Nigeria, are suffering without this kind of compensation, many can't even train their children in university because of peanut they're paid, this is a misplaced priority to me."
@GhesyEmrade posited:
"Congratulations to them, but this is not how to run a country, wasting our resources because you're looking for validation."
