The youths stated this in a statement signed by the group chairman and secretary, Maduagwu Eric-Kenny, and Chamberlain Egoh, respectively, in Awka, the state capital, on Wednesday, August 20, as reported by The Punch.

The youths condemned the act against Obi, who is also the former presidential candidate of the Labour Party in the 2023 general election, as what they described as 'unfounded attacks' from desperate politicians seeking votes.

The youths expressed worry that certain politicians visiting Agulu to seek support tend to make offensive remarks about Obi, despite the prior benefits they received from his generosity and political backing.

According to them, such behaviour is not only provocative but unacceptable.

“Peter Obi’s name commands respect not only in Nigerian politics but also on the global stage. We will never allow anyone, regardless of position or influence, to diminish his image,” the statement read.
“We therefore issue this unequivocal caution: any politician visiting Agulu for any purpose must refrain from making derogatory or disparaging remarks about our dear brother, Peter Obi,” they added.

They further stated that any subsequent attempts to disparage Obi in the community will face 'organised, peaceful, yet determined resistance.

The group emphasised that, as is seen in other communities where political leaders' legacies are honoured and preserved, Agulu residents will uphold and defend Obi as a symbol of identity and pride that garners respect nationwide and internationally.

Obi commends military after arresting wanted terror leader

Legit.ng previously reported that the 2023 Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has commended the Nigerian security agencies for their success in the fight against terrorism, kidnappings, and banditry. Obi urged that the military be better equipped, trained, and motivated to sustain these gains.

He said the sacrifices of gallant officers and men in uniform remind us that Nigeria can—and must—be safe for all its citizens.

This was contained in a statement issued via his X handle @PeterObi on Tuesday, August 19, 2025. The former Anambra state governor said beyond arrests, justice should be served to the terrorists so that impunity is not encouraged.

PDP divided over next presidential candidate

Legit.ng also reported that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is embroiled in fresh internal divisions as its leaders remain divided over whether to field former president Goodluck Jonathan, former Anambra state governor Peter Obi, or Oyo state governor Seyi Makinde as its presidential candidate for the 2027 elections.

Multiple party sources disclosed that some leaders, allegedly aligned with Nyesom Wike, the minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), are pushing for Obi, while another bloc is rooting for Jonathan, arguing that he is the only figure within the party capable of giving President Bola Ahmed Tinubu a serious challenge in 2027. A third group has also thrown Makinde’s name into the mix.
