- Nyesom Wike, the FCT minister, has commented on the mission of former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, to sack President Bola Tinubu
- Wike, in an interview on Tuesday, August 19, insisted that Nigerians would reject Amaechi in the next general election

Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has dismissed the chances of Rotimi Amaechi, the former Minister of Transportation, in the 2027 presidential election, saying the ambition is “dead on arrival.”
The minister made the dismissal while speaking on Channels Television's interview on Tuesday night, August 19, saying that the former minister would be rejected by Nigerians and that he would not secure the African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential ticket.

Wike replies Amaechi on plan to sack Tinubu
Wike also responded to the claim of Amaechi that he knew the weaknesses of President Bola Tinubu and how to defeat him in the next general election, but the FCT Minister expressed wonder why Amaechi failed to defeat Tinubu in the presidential primary of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Recall that Amaechi and Wike were both former governors of Rivers state, and have remained political enemies since the former dumped the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the then-growing coalition party, All Progressives Congress (APC).
Recently, Amaechi said he would not descend so low to the level of a child by trading words with Wike. The ex-governor said the FCT Minister was once his chief of staff and was not up to him politically.
Amaechi says he once employed Wike
The former governor, who is now a strong voice of the coalition seeking to sack President Bola Tinubu in 2027, maintained that he had the power to fire Wike when he was serving under him, adding that whether Wike likes it or not, he was once his staff.
At his 60th birthday celebration last week, Amaechi claimed that, like many other Nigerians, he was hungry. But Wike dismissed the comment, describing it as a ploy to regain political relevance, and added that the former governor was merely hungry for power.

In 2021, Wike stated that he was instrumental in making Amaechi governor. The FCT Minister claimed that God used him for that purpose, adding that he even had a recording in which Amaechi acknowledged that, after God, he was the most important figure in his rise to power. He accused the former governor of going on television to call him his former staff.

Wike speaks on PDP membership
Legit.ng earlier reported that Nyesom Wike insisted that he remains a member of the PDP while reacting to the call for his expulsion from the party.
Wike, in a media chat on Monday, June 2, 2025, said he had not seen anyone in the party who had the guts to tell him that he was no longer a member of the PDP.
The minister insisted that the PDP was the party he had served for many years and that he was ready to challenge anyone to mention their contributions to the party.
