Kano, Kano state - Sule Lamido, former governor of Jigawa state, has said President Bola Tinubu appointed Nyesom Wike, the minister of the federal capital territory (FCT), for a specific political purpose.

Speaking in an interview on Tuesday, August 5, with Arise News, monitored by Legit.ng, Lamido stated that by the time the purpose is completed, President Tinubu "will remove" Wike.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain said:

“I have been saying Tinubu will look for somebody who will help him in his own political interest. And there are mercenaries who are willing to be rewarded and hired. Remove the office Wike is holding today, it will be like me, an unelected person.
"So, his entire weight and the rhetoric and whatever he is saying is because he is in an office that gives him flair, visibility, and authority.”

Lamido analyses Tinubu's politics

He continued:

“Today, by Tinubu’s personal manipulation or personal coercion, he has been able to win over Akwa Ibom, Edo, and Delta. And of course, Wike is there for him in Rivers. So you see, these areas in the south-south were gotten by Tinubu’s personal efforts, not Wike."

Lamido added:

“By the time Tinubu is able to secure the south-south in his own basket, Wike will become irrelevant, and he will remove him. He appointed Wike for a purpose and gave him an office for a purpose; by the time the purpose is no more, that’s the end of it.”

Wike vows to lead campaign for Tinubu

Legit.ng recalls that in June, Wike vowed to lead the 2027 presidential campaign in Rivers state for Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The FCT minister and ex-governor of the oil-rich state is a prominent member of the PDP, although he serves in the APC administration of President Tinubu.

Wike has been accused of sabotaging the PDP to the benefit of the Tinubu administration, but he has always maintained that he is a loyal member and benefactor of the party.

In the build-up to the 2023 election, Wike opposed his party's candidate, Atiku Abubakar, and worked for Tinubu's success in the poll.

Earlier, Legit.ng reported that Lamido accused President Tinubu of systematically deploying presidential power and federal agencies to intimidate opposition politicians into defecting to the All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the 2027 elections.

Speaking to journalists during an interactive session in Kano, Lamido warned that the country’s democracy is being quietly eroded through what he described as the calculated use of institutions like the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to silence critics and force political realignment.

Lamido pointed to recent developments involving former Delta state governor and ex-PDP vice-presidential candidate Ifeanyi Okowa as an example.
