Group knocks ADC leadership
According to The Cable, Godwin Alaku, the publicity secretary of the group, at a press conference in Abuja on Monday, August 4, raised the allegation against the coalition leaders, adding that the ADC will not "be a platform for political mercenaries or ideological impostors”.
Alaku maintained that the ADC's adoption by the coalition was a planned "political coup" carried out by political accomplices who were power-hungry. He alleged that the party was hijacked by the coalition through "manipulation and backdoor dealings, describing the development as "unconstitutional".
The group described the display of Mark and Aregbesola's leadership of the party as a desperate move to grab power, adding that such was an aberration of democratic principles and an assault on the "collective political values" that the country cherishes.
The group spokesperson stated that it was necessary to clarify that the development was never a realignment of political ideology, nor was it a resolution of the internal differences within the party. Alaku then described the coalition as a "civilian junta".
