Crisis in ADC Deepens as Group Raises Alarm Over Fresh Plot to Hijack Party
- BCD warned of a fresh plot to hijack ADC, accusing ex-Senate President David Mark of leading the charge through a group called “Coalition for 2027"
- Anuga slammed Mark’s legacy in Benue South, alleging it was built on rigging, intimidation, and lack of development, with “nothing to show” for his years in power
- The group rejected Mark’s comeback, calling it a recycled agenda led by “expired political jobbers” and urging the ADC to distance itself from him
The Benue Concerned Democrats (BCD) has issued a stern warning over what it calls a “fresh and dangerous” plot to hijack the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

‘David Mark is no democrat’ — BCD convener
In a strongly worded statement released on Monday, August 4, the Convener of BCD, Arc Idoha Audu Anuga, expressed deep concern over what he described as the attempted political “reincarnation” of David Mark under the guise of leadership renewal.
“Nigerians must not forget who David Mark truly is. He is no democrat,” Anuga declared.
He referenced Mark’s alleged past involvement with the Association for Better Nigeria (ABN), which he claimed worked against the historic June 12 mandate of Chief MKO Abiola.
“Mark stood not with the people, but with the enemies of democracy,” he said.
‘His legacy in Benue South is failure’
Anuga also criticised Mark’s political record in Benue South, describing it as a legacy of “rigging, intimidation and manipulation”.
He recalled what he called the “infamous” senatorial election between Mark and Alhaji Usman Abubakar, saying it was “one of the worst electoral daylight robberies in Benue history”.
“Benue South has nothing to show for David Mark’s over a decade in power. No federal projects, no legacy, not even a youth empowerment programme,” he said.
Group calls coalition a recycled agenda
The group dismissed the “Coalition for 2027” as a recycled version of Nigeria’s past political failures.
“If the ADC must survive as a credible platform, it must distance itself from David Mark and his ilk,” Anuga said.
According to him, it is impossible to fight democratic decay by bringing back the same people who contributed to it.
“This is the same old Mark, backed by the same gang of expired political jobbers seeking to line their pockets once more under the guise of rescuing Nigeria,” he added.
‘Leadership by fear, not service’
The statement also accused the former Senate President of displaying dictatorial traits throughout his military and political careers.
“His military career, much like his political life, was punctuated by habitual abuse of office, intimidation and harassment of perceived opponents,” Anuga alleged.
He concluded with a firm rejection of Mark’s political comeback.
“We, the Benue Concerned Democrats, reject David Mark’s attempted reincarnation in whatever form. Nigerians deserve a clean break from yesterday’s men. David Mark represents the rot of the past, not the hope of the future.”
