“We find it necessary to address his recent manoeuvres, to forcefully take over and destabilise the leadership of the African Democratic Congress, which have once again revealed his true nature as a habitual anti-democracy element,” Olatunji stated.

OPA recalls June 12 annulment

The OPA did not mince words in recalling David Mark’s alleged role in the annulment of the June 12, 1993 presidential election, describing it as a major betrayal of democratic ideals.

“David Mark’s notoriety is not a recent development; it is a legacy forged in the fires of political treachery and betrayal.
“He played a pivotal role in the annulment of the June 12, 1993 elections, which are widely regarded as the most credible in the annals of Nigerian democracy," he said.

He said Mark was a key backer of the infamous movement led by Arthur Nzeribe that opposed the will of millions of Nigerians.

OPA: ADC takeover is a threat to democracy

The OPA alleged that David Mark is now attempting to “seize control” of the ADC for selfish reasons, adding that the move betrays the ideals on which the party was founded.

“This forceful takeover, orchestrated with the intent of spreading mischief and discord, is a clear indication of Mark's relentless pursuit of power at the expense of democratic integrity,” he said.

Nigerians urged to resist anti-democratic ambitions

He called on Nigerians and pro-democracy advocates to remain alert and resist what he called “the tyranny of ambition.”

“The OPA implores the Nigerian populace to reject the machinations of individuals like David Mark, who have demonstrated time and again their commitment to anti-democratic practices,” Olatunji added.

Federal Government asked to act

The OPA further urged the federal government to take decisive action against persons past and present who attempt to sabotage democratic governance.

“The act of sabotaging and undermining a democratic government on June 12 constitutes a treasonable felony that threatens the very foundations of democratic governance.
“By taking firm action, the government would not only uphold the principles of democracy but also serve as a deterrent to others who might contemplate similar acts of treachery in the future," Olatunji said.
