FCT, Abuja - Jibril Doguwa, a factional chairman of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) in Kano state, has hinted that Rabiu Kwankwaso, presidential candidate of the party in the 2023 election, may return to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Doguwa stated this in an interview published by The Punch on Sunday, July 3.

Doguwa said:

“There is a possibility that Kwankwaso wants to go back to the APC. No Kwankwasiyya member would meet Tinubu without the knowledge or approval of Kwankwaso."

"In politics, there are no permanent enemies, only permanent interests."

Legit.ng reports that the resignation of the former national chairman of the APC, Abdullahi Ganduje, in June induced speculations that Kwankwaso may work with President Bola Tinubu.

Ganduje served as deputy to Kwankwaso when the latter was Kano governor. He (Ganduje) succeeded him (Kwankwaso) as governor before both fell out.

Kwankwaso's ally speaks

Meanwhile, Abdulmumini Jibrin, member representing Kiru/Bebeji constituency of Kano state at the house of representatives, said recently that only Senator Kwankwaso can decide his political future.

Jibrin stated this while granting an interview to the press after his visit to President Tinubu.

The lawmaker visited the president at the presidential Villa.

Jibrin said:

“I am not in the position to comment on the reports saying Kwankwaso is joining the APC. Only Kwankwaso can decide on this. And it is also an issue related to the president. I am too young to reconcile the two big men. But if it comes to that; reconciliation is a positive thing.

'Kwankwaso free to join us' – APC

On its part, the APC responded to non-stop speculations that Kwankwaso may be planning to join its platform ahead of the 2027 election.

Speaking on Channels Television in June, APC national spokesperson Felix Morka said Kwankwaso—like every other Nigerian—is free to make his own political decisions, including joining the APC.

Morka said;

“Kwankwaso is an elite, one of Nigeria’s eminent citizens, and is free, as a political agent, to make decisions for himself—whether to join our party or remain in his party."

APC chieftain slams Kwankwaso

Earlier, Legit.ng reported that a former deputy national publicity secretary of the APC, Yekini Nabena, criticised Kwankwaso over his recent remarks alleging that Nigeria’s South is unfairly favoured in federal projects and development.

Nabena argued that Kwankwaso’s comments were aimed at fuelling regional tensions to undermine the South’s right to complete an eight-year term in the presidency.
