Kaduna, Kaduna state - Ahead of the 2027 election, a group of former northern legislators has rejected the endorsement of President Bola Tinubu by some of their kinsmen.
Legit.ng recalls that the Northern Caucus Forum of the 9th national assembly in a communiqué co-signed by coordinator Rufai Chanchangi and secretary Atiwurcha recently endorsed the southern presidency in 2027. The northern caucus said it was in the north’s best interest for the incumbent to complete the south’s tenure.
Tinubu is a Yoruba man from the southern region.
The position of the pro-Tinubu ex-legislators was made known after a dialogue session reportedly convened by the chief of staff (CoS) to the president, Femi Gbajabiamila.
But The Punch, in a report on Sunday, August 3, said the endorsement was rejected by another group of northern ex-legislators. The former lawmakers described the dialogue session and its outcome as politically-motivated and unrepresentative of the region’s true sentiment.
In a statement titled 'We Can’t All Be Commodified,' the opposing ex-lawmakers, under the aegis of Concerned Former Members of the House of Representatives, Northern Nigeria, said the meeting was a staged political show.
The statement was jointly signed by Zakari Mohammed, Tom Zakari, Aminu Shagari, and Mohammed Musa Soba.
Mohammed said as Nigerians look forward to the 2027 election, the Chanchangi group was deceived into endorsing Tinubu for a second term.

The statement partly reads:
“We categorically state that this group does not speak for all former northern legislators, and the positions outlined in their communiqué are neither representative nor reflective of the current sentiments across northern Nigeria.
"At best, this forum is a political front posing as a neutral body, and should have boldly declared themselves supporters of Rt. Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila, the Chief of Staff to President Bola Tinubu."
It added:
"We refuse to endorse a failing system that continues to deepen the wounds of the North and the nation as a whole."
Northern leaders review Tinubu’s performance
Meanwhile, northern leaders gathered recently in Kaduna to assess President Tinubu's two-year performance, focusing on key appointments, project execution, and federal allocations.
It was like a verbal clash between the Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) and President Tinubu’s men on Tuesday, July 29.
Noting that the region significantly contributed to the victory of President Tinubu in the 2023 elections, Bashir Dalhatu, the chairman of the ACF board of trustees (BoTs), alleged that the incumbent government has neglected the region, especially in its budget allocations and infrastructural development.
But President Tinubu’s helmsmen rose to paint a different picture.
Both the Kaduna state governor, Uba Sani and his Gombe counterpart, Inuwa Yahaya, countered Dalhatu.
They said the president is committed to fulfilling his promises to the north.
Prophet mentions Tinubu's strongest pillar
Earlier, Legit.ng reported that Prophet Abel Boma said the opposition coalition platform would fail in their bid to wrest power from Tinubu and the All Progressives Congress (APC).
In his new prophecy, Pastor Boma stated that if Tinubu's backers like Nyesom Wike, minister of the federal capital territory (FCT), are alive and they are still connected to Tinubu, the president will emerge victorious in the 2027 election.
