Melaye said that despite the bigwigs within the ADC, the party will work to present a candidate to defeat President Tinubu in 2027.
He stated this while speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Friday, August 1, 2025.
“Those of us in the ADC need to create a comfortable, stable platform. And I believe that platform will produce a candidate that will unseat President Ahmed Bola Tinubu in 2027.
“But I have made it a point of duty that I will not be talking about a presidential candidate or aspirant or preference for anybody until we get the party completely stabilised and organise a transparent convention that will produce a presidential candidate of the ADC who, by the grace of God, will kick.”
Melaye described the ADC as a “national altar call,” While urging Nigerians to rethink the party’s role in national politics.
The former federal lawmaker noted that those who join the ADC are driven by conscience and a desire for change.

Presidency makes strong case for Tinubu's 2nd term
Recall that a presidential spokesperson, Bayo Onanuga, advised northern politicians to postpone their presidential ambitions until 2031.

He argued that, given that Tinubu's predecessor, late Muhammadu Buhari, spent eight years in office, the current president must also complete two terms.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng reported that Felix Morka, National Publicity Secretary of APC, claims President Tinubu’s performance in two years surpasses that of previous leaders, focusing on long-term economic reforms.
Morka defends Tinubu against ongoing opposition criticisms from figures like Amaechi, Atiku, and El-Rufai, asserting their criticisms lack substance and are politically motivated.
He challenges opposition leaders for failing to offer alternative policies, emphasising that Tinubu’s actions prioritise the country's long-term prosperity over short-term popularity.
