Breaking: Dino Melaye Finally Dumps PDP, Announces Next Decision

Senator Dino Melaye, a former federal lawmaker and governorship candidate in Kogi State, has formally resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), ending months of speculation about his political future.

The announcement was contained in a signed letter addressed to the PDP chairman of Ward 1, Aiyetoro Gbede in Ijumu Local Government Area of Kogi State.

The statement was shared via his official X (formerly Twitter) account, where he expressed disappointment in the party’s inability to address Nigeria’s growing challenges, saying the PDP had lost its strength and capacity to bring meaningful change.

“This decision has become imperative due to the lack of potency and capacity by the party to deliver the Nigerian people from the prevailing political cankerworms that have eaten deeply into the fabric of our dear nation,” he wrote.

Dino Melaye says conscience no longer aligns with PDP’s agenda

The outspoken politician, known for his dramatic political style, explained that after deep reflection, he could no longer participate in PDP’s activities in good faith.

“Having carefully reflected on the state of the party, I can no longer in good conscience participate in the activities of the party or lend my support to her agenda,” Melaye stated.

Dino Melaye bows out of PDP at all levels

Melaye added that his withdrawal from the party takes immediate effect and covers all levels of engagement, both local and national.

“Please consider this as my formal withdrawal from the party and all its activities at all levels with immediate effect,” he noted.

Though Melaye did not reveal the name of his next political party, political observers believe his defection could influence alignments ahead of the 2027 elections.

As of the time of filing this report, he has not officially declared his new party.

Ex-NAFDAC DG dumps PDP

In a significant twist of events, the former Director-General of the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC), Dr. Paul Botwev Orhii, has resigned his membership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Orhii, who contested the Benue state governorship ticket of the PDP in 2019 and 2023, announced his resignation in a letter dated July 28, 2025, addressed to the chairman of the party in Ushongo Local Government Area of Benue state.

In the letter, which was made available to the press on Wednesday, July 30, the former NAFDAC boss said his decision followed “intensive consultations with my family, friends, and thousands of political associates locally, nationally, and globally.”
