2027 election: Dino Melaye, 2 other Atiku's allies who have dumped PDP for ADC, list springs up

This came days after the former vice president, Atiku Abubakar, resigned from the PDP, citing irreconcilable differences within the party.

Atiku's resignation came days after the Atiku-led coalition announced the adoption of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as its political platform ahead of the 2027 general election.

While some political pundits urged Peter Obi to drop his 2027 presidential ambition and work for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's re-election, others advised the former governor of Anambra state to work with Atiku.

However, in an exclusive interview with Legit.ng on Wednesday, July 30, Dare Glintstone Akinniyi, urged Peter Obi to shelve the idea of a proposed or forced return to the PDP.

According to Akinniyi, the move will be present the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) with an automatic victory in the 2027 elections.

Akinniyi said:

"At the moment, his proposed or forced return to PDP will give the APC a clean and easy victory and on the other hand give us the same scenario that played out in 2023. In my opinion, Peter Obi should kill the thought of returning to a drowning Peoples Democratic Party [PDP]. It's a strategy to kick the coalition divided, so that President Tinubu can have a second term of office."

2027 presidency: ADC is the promising platform for Peter Obi

Explaining further, Dare Glintstone Akinniyi, spokesperson of the New Democratic Frontiers, wondered what Peter Obi could benefit in the PDP, considering the recent defections that has hit the nation's main opposition party.

Legit.ng reported that Atiku-led ADC coalition was adopted as the flagship platform of the opposition coalition ahead of the 2027 presidential election in Nigeria.

Peter Obi and other influential politicians openly aligned with the ADC coalition platform, although several of them have yet to formally declare for the party.

However, buttressing his point, Akinniyi urged Peter Obi to consider contesting for president under the ADC platform, insisting that "returning to the PDP is a plot to rubbish him completely."

Akinniyi told Legit.ng that:

"The ADC is an open and promising platform for Peter Obi to run under - which he is already a part of. The only way APC can win the 2027 general election is when the opposition is divided. They know this and that is why you see that APC is interested in the Coalition much more than the security of lives and property.

2027 election: “ADC coalition will take over power from Tinubu”: Atiku declares

"If I may ask, what is Obi looking for in the PDP? The same PDP that is losing members per minute and almost all the governors have endorsed President Tinubu for a second term of office? I am sure he is in the know of what the plot is — to bring him onboard to rubbish him completely.
"The PDP is currently like an abandoned building, everyone is moving out for a better and saner place. It's an extension of the All Progressive Congress and the PDP can pass as a Support group under APC, this is their current status.
"Peter Obi should run away from anything PDP."
