Plot to Sack Tinubu in 2027: "Obi Part Of Coalition From Day 1," ADC Speaks Out
- ADC said Peter Obi was part of the opposition coalition from the beginning, actively attending meetings despite not formally joining the party
- Speculations continued over Obi’s potential return to the PDP, with former Borno state governor Sheriff suggesting he may seek the 2027 presidential ticket under the party’s platform
- The ADC also denied claims that the coalition is driven by Atiku Abubakar’s ambition, insisting the alliance is focused on a collective goal
The Africa Democratic Congress (ADC) has confirmed that Labour Party’s presidential candidate in the 2023 elections, Peter Obi, has been a foundational member of the opposition coalition seeking to unseat President Bola Tinubu in 2027.
This was made known by the coalition’s spokesperson, Bolaji Abdullahi, during an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Wednesday, July 30.

Speaking on the programme, Abdullahi clarified that contrary to reports suggesting Obi was an outsider, he has been an active participant in the coalition’s activities from the beginning.

2027 election: Has ADC coalition adopted Peter Obi as presidential candidate? Reality comes to light
“Peter Obi has been part of the coalition from day one. Peter Obi has attended almost every meeting of the coalition,” Abdullahi stated.
He added that Obi’s formal membership with the ADC was only delayed due to pending obligations with the Labour Party.
“The reason Peter Obi has not come into the ADC as a card-carrying member was because he asked for leave to allow him to complete the election that his people were involved in the Labour Party.
“The same thing applied to Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, and they were allowed by the leadership to complete the election processes that they started in their respective parties before they come into the ADC," he explained.
Speculations of PDP return for Obi
Meanwhile, fresh speculation has emerged over a possible return of Peter Obi to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), where he previously served as a vice-presidential candidate in 2019, Vanguard reported.
Former Borno state governor, Ali Modu Sheriff, on Monday hinted that Obi could contest the 2027 presidential election under the PDP banner, Vanguard reported.
“Atiku has been the vice president of Nigeria. So for him, (it is) president or nothing. Peter Obi ran under the Labour Party. His ambition is to become president.
“Information available to me is that any moment from now, Obi would go back to the PDP and run as a presidential candidate under the PDP," Sheriff said.
ADC not about Atiku, says Abdullahi

Addressing concerns that the opposition coalition is primarily structured around former Vice President Atiku Abubakar’s ambition, Abdullahi strongly refuted the claim, Channels Television reported.
“What I know for a fact is that Peter Obi is in the coalition. I also know for a fact that this is not an Atiku coalition.
“Like I have said repeatedly, the ADC is not built on anybody’s ambition. What is at stake is much bigger than every individual," he said.
