Presidency Makes Strong Case for Tinubu's 2nd Term Bid Ahead of 2027 Election

FCT, Abuja - Bayo Onanuga, special adviser on information and strategy to President Bola Tinubu, on Wednesday, July 30, asserted that his principal "deserves the same two terms that late Muhammadu Buhari had".

Onanuga said:

Legit.ng reports that as the battle for the 2027 presidency gains momentum, talks about whether Tinubu would emerge as the All Progressives Congress (APC) flagbearer have surfaced.
Per a report by The Punch in April, sources close to the APC secretariat in Abuja confirmed that there are growing indications that the ruling party may offer President Tinubu an automatic ticket.
Several sources emphasised that, based on the power of incumbency, the president would be given the “first right of refusal” to seek re-election for a second term.

This development follows counteractions from opposition parties, which have been rallying against Tinubu’s 2027 re-election bid.
In the same vein, George Akume, secretary to the government of the federation (SGF), on Tuesday, July 29, advised politicians from Nigeria’s northern region to postpone their presidential ambitions until 2031, asserting that President Tinubu has made “fundamental and remarkable” progress deserving of continuity.
Speaking during a two-day interactive session in Kaduna, themed “Assessing Electoral Promises: Fostering Government-Citizens’ Engagement for National Unity” and hosted by the Sir Ahmadu Bello Memorial Foundation, Akume stated that Tinubu had proven himself a capable leader worthy of a second term.
Akume said:
“President Tinubu has spent two years and two months in office, and his achievements are already foundational and remarkable. I urge politicians from the northern region to wait until 2031. Do not join a group that will stagnate the development President Tinubu has achieved.”
Does Tinubu deserve second term? APC chieftain speaks
In his reaction, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Obidike Chukwuebuka, echoed the sentiments that President Tinubu deserves to be re-elected in 2027, citing his achievements.
"Tinubu's decision to remove fuel subsidies has saved Nigeria ₦4 trillion annually, redirected to critical infrastructure and social programmes. Although fuel prices rose, palliatives were implemented to cushion the effects," Obidike told Legit.ng.
"On energy sector reforms, Mr. President signed to generate an additional 2,000 MW of power from renewable sources by the end of 2025, improving electricity distribution in key cities in Nigeria.
"In education, Mr. President introduced the student loan scheme, which has benefited over 500,000 students across higher institutions are beneficiaries. The accreditation of new universities by the current administration has widened the space for more students to gain meaningful education, which in turn brings about mass literacy.
"Mr. President recently made available about 100 billion naira to selected federal universities across Nigeria to close the infrastructure gap.
Through the Ministry of Interior, Mr. President introduced digits passport scheme, this digital solutions reduced passport issuance times from six weeks to two weeks, processing over 600,000 passports in the last quarter of 2024. These tell you how wonderful these two years (of his administration) have been".

Ayodele's warning to Tinubu
Earlier, Legit.ng reported that Primate Elijah Ayodele, founder of the INRI evangelical spiritual church, Lagos, warned President Tinubu against some of his appointments and governors decamping to the APC from other parties.
In a statement signed by Osho Oluwatosin, his media aide, obtained by Legit.ng, Primate Ayodele warned Tinubu to be careful, as his opponents will use insecurity to disrupt his second-term ambition.
He also claimed that there are people within the presidency who are behind the insecurity, including those in the Aso Rock Villa.
