In a significant twist of events, the former Director-General of the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC), Dr. Paul Botwev Orhii, has resigned his membership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Why did Orhii quit the PDP?
Orhii, who contested the Benue state governorship ticket of the PDP in 2019 and 2023, announced his resignation in a letter dated July 28, 2025, addressed to the chairman of the party in Ushongo Local Government Area of Benue state.

In the letter, which was made available to the press on Wednesday, July 30, the former NAFDAC boss said his decision followed “intensive consultations with my family, friends, and thousands of political associates locally, nationally, and globally.”
His defection added to the list of prominent politicians who have recently dumped the once-dominant party.

Orhii reportedly set to join ADC
Orhii is set to join the African Democratic Congress (ADC), where many of his political allies have reportedly pitched their tent amid ongoing political realignments in Benue state.
Fayose’s ex-deputy gov dumps PDP
Similarly, Legit.ng reported that a former deputy governor of Ekiti state, Professor Kolapo Olusola-Eleka, resigned his membership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state.
Olusola-Eleka revealed this in a letter dated July 24, addressed to the Okeruku Ward 2 chairman in Ikere-Ekiti, Ikere Local Government Area of the state.
The ex-deputy governor hinged his decision on the party’s failure to provide a platform for credible opposition and leadership in the country.

Defection: Benue ex-gov Ortom rejects Atiku's coalition
In another development, Legit.ng reported that the immediate past governor of Benue state, Samuel Ortom, said he will not be joining the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
Ortom, during an interview on Channels TV Politics Today, on Monday, July 21, asserted that while others are free to associate with any coalition, he remains a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
