Ali Modu Sheriff, the former governor of Borno State, has alleged that Peter Obi, the 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party, would soon be dumping the party and the coalition movement for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Sheriff maintained that the information at his hand disclosed that Obi, who was a former governor of Anambra and recently associated himself with the coalition, would soon dump the coalition to achieve his presidential ambition in the leading opposition PDP.

Ali Modu Sheriff speaks on Obi's ambition
The former Borno governor made this known while speaking on a Channels Television programme on Monday, July 28. He also dismissed the coalition's adopted political party, the African Democratic Congress (ADC), adding that the party does not exist.
He also dismissed the notion that he was dumping the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) for the coalition ADC, stating that he was a foundation member of the APC and that the coalition is full of people with presidential ambition.
According to Sheriff, the ADC may collapse in the next three months, and the presidential ambition of the former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and that of the ex-Rivers governor, Rotimi Amaechi, could be instrumental to the party's destruction.

Nigerians react as Sheriff speaks on Obi
Some Nigerians have taken to the comment section of the interview to express their views about Sheriff's comment. Below are some of their reactions:
Vince Chukwu wrote:
"Can’t wait for that day when any politician will appear on this Seun program and not talk about Peter Obi. It’s almost impossible."
Emmanuel Ibeoha commented:
"The obsession they have over Obi! They are even tracking information about him yet, APC claim he doesn't matter."
David Usher commented:
"Engaging in trivial politicking over speculative defections exemplifies the absence of substantive political discourse that undermines governance in Africa. Focusing on such inconsequential matters reflects a lack of vision and intellectual rigour in addressing pressing national challenges. It is a disservice to democracy when individuals with questionable records of public service are repeatedly presented as “honourable men,” thereby eroding public trust in political institutions and the rule of law."
SEA reacted:
"My take-home: he confirmed Atiku is irrelevant in the scheme of things. Obi is the coalition."
Ufuoma tweeted:
"Every politician wants to use Peter Obi to revive their career."

Bolaji Abdullahi, the spokesperson of the party, made the disclosure while speaking at an event in Abuja on Saturday, July 26.
Abdullahi emphasised that the party did not have a candidate presently and the leaders are not in discussion with anyone at the moment.
