Kaduna, Kaduna – In a major political move, the 2023 deputy governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kaduna state, John Ayuba, has officially resigned from the party and joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

Ayuba confirmed his defection on Monday, July 28, in a formal resignation letter addressed to the PDP Ward Chairman of Ungwan Gaiya Ward in Zangon Kataf Local Government Area.

PDP leaders accused of anti-party conduct

Ayuba expressed deep frustration over the state of affairs within the PDP, accusing top national figures of mismanaging the party’s direction and future.

“I have, over the last three years, watched with great concern the mismanagement of the future of our party at the national level by those who, I fear to say, do not mean well for its future,” he said.

He added that

“these events culminated in brazen acts of anti-party activities against our presidential candidate in the 2023 general election by highly placed party members.”

No action taken months after elections - Ayuba

The former deputy governorship hopeful lamented that months after the 2023 elections, the PDP leadership had yet to take firm steps to address internal grievances.

This inaction, he noted, had left loyal members demoralised and uncertain.

Ayuba said his decision to quit the party followed extensive consultations with his political allies and grassroots supporters. According to him, remaining in the PDP was no longer an option.

Despite his grievances, Ayuba expressed appreciation to the PDP for the platform and support it provided him, particularly his nomination as deputy governorship candidate in the 2023 elections.

However, he maintained that it was time to seek a fresh political path under the African Democratic Congress.

Ayuba’s exit adds to the growing list of high-profile defections from the PDP in Kaduna and across Nigeria. The party has continued to battle internal wrangling and dissatisfaction among members since the conclusion of the last general elections.
