FCT, Abuja - The wave of defections has hit the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) as some of its prominent chieftains have dumped the party.

ADC Leaders Step Down For David Mark, Aregbesola

Recall that ADC leaders handed over the structure of the party to the national opposition movement.

The ADC leaders resigned to allow David Mark and Rauf Aregbesola take over as the interim national chairman and secretary of the party.

Recall that Atiku-led coalition had adopted the ADC as a platform to challenge President Bola Ahmed Tinubu of the APC in the 2027 election.

Obi, Amaechi, Atiku, El-Rufai can't hold together – Analyst

Dr. Toks Oguntuga, a political analyst has dismissed the newly formed ADC-led coalition as a fragile alliance driven by individual ambition rather than a shared national vision.

“The dramatis personae within this coalition are, quite frankly, riddled with desperation and plagued by an unrelenting thirst for power,” Oguntuga told Legit.ng.

“Many of them are infamous for their inability to accept defeat with dignity or delay gratification for strategic gain.”

He questioned the willingness of key figures to compromise:

“Atiku Abubakar, for instance, perceives this as his final shot at the presidency, his political swan song. Do you genuinely envision him stepping aside for a Southern candidate? Highly improbable.”
“Rotimi Amaechi is still nursing wounds from his defeat in the 2023 APC primaries; he is unlikely to gracefully concede to someone like Peter Obi.”
“Nasir El-Rufai, on the other hand, abandoned the APC out of sheer pique for not being rewarded with a ministerial appointment. Can he, with a straight face, endorse Peter Obi whom he once lambasted in no uncertain terms as the coalition’s presidential standard-bearer?”

Oguntuga concluded with doubt over the coalition’s durability.

“I find it difficult to believe that this assembly of political prima donnas will remain united after a bruising primary contest.”

Coalition announces Mark, Aregbesola as leaders

Recall that President Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) was sent a warning note to gear up for the challenges ahead against his second-term ambition by the coalition.

This is as the coalition movement announced Mark and ex-governor of Osun Rauf Aregbesola as the interim national chairman and secretary of its adopted ADC.

According to multiple sources, the coalition movement also appointed the former sports minister, Bolaji Abdullahi, as the interim publicity secretary of the ADC.
