UK-based man deports wife to Nigeria

According to the woman's story, the man, who works as a carer, sponsored his wife to join him in the UK after they married in Nigeria.

However, she reportedly changed when she arrived in the UK and made fun of his occupation, allegedly abusing him and even threatening to call the police on him.

She claimed there were also times when the husband was physically assaulted and another time when she did indeed contact the authorities to try and get him arrested.

Having endured the alleged domestic violence and abuse, and after reporting his marital travails to her family to no avail, the man filed for a divorce and reported his wife to the authorities.

She was reportedly taken off his Certificate of Sponsorship (COS) and eventually deported back to Nigeria. The lady's narration partly read:

“So the men in the UK are not taking it easy. They are not taking any abuse from any woman now. Our Nigerian brother, who is a carer in the UK, went back home to get married. Jeje, they finished the whole marriage process. He brought the girl from Nigeria to the UK now.
"When the girl arrived in the UK, the girl said, ah, is it ordinary care work that you’re doing? That’s a dirty job and all that. She started abusing the man. She said, 'Ah, if you do this, I’ll call police on you. If you do that, I’ll call police on you'.

UK immigration law on dependant visa

The UK stipulates that a person who entered the country on a relationship (dependant) visa can either apply for another visa in the event of separation from their spouse or leave the UK.

It explained:

"Your visa is based on your relationship if you have permission to stay in the UK for a limited time as:
"a dependant on your partner’s UK visa
"a spouse or partner on a family visa
"Your visa may also be based on your relationship if you have an EU Settlement Scheme family permit or pre-settled status as the dependant of an EU national. You’ll have to either apply to stay in the UK or leave.

Know your partner before relocation – Advisor

Visa advisor and consultant Mobolaji Ogundairo has advised Nigerians seeking to relocate abroad through spousal or partner visas to be more discerning about who they travel with, especially in cases of dependency.

He told Legit.ng:

"Well, there's little advice I can give because most of the spousal visa is 'arrangee.' But if I would say, whoever you would want to move out with or move in with, travel with either spouse or dependency, try to understand the person's behavior and way of life. If you can tolerate it, fine. If not, look for another person."

In a related story, Legit.ng reported that a UK-based man had sent his wife back to Nigeria after she called the police on him.
