Osas, who also took pictures in front of the church, said it does not just hold bricks and stained glass, but centuries of stories, colonial footprints, and the roots of Christianity in Nigeria.

Lady's observation at Nigeria's first church

In a TikTok post, she said standing at the church premises felt sacred, calm, quiet and like time slowed down.

She disclosed that entry to the church is free, but advised people to dress respectfully when visiting the historic site. She wrote:

"Visit the FIRST Church in Nigeria 🇳🇬⛪St. Peter’s Cathedral, Ake – Abeokuta’s sacred land.
"Stepping into history, one peaceful moment at a time. 🕊️
"This is St. Peter’s Cathedral, Ake, Abeokuta, the first church in Nigeria, built in 1898.
"It holds not just bricks and stained glass, but centuries of stories, colonial footprints, and the roots of Christianity in Nigeria.
"Standing here felt sacred, calm, quiet, like time slowed down.You don’t just visit this place, you feel it.
"Entry is free, but please dress respectfully."

Legit.ng learnt that the church was completed in 1898 and was built by Reverend Andre Desalu Wilhelm. It was built to serve as the meeting place for all the missionaries.
