"A pilot was faced with quite a challenge as they attempted to land in Leeds during extreme winds caused by Storm Floris. Gusts of up to 85mph were expected across Northern England and Scotland, with much of Scotland under an amber weather warning."

Meanwhile, The Independent UK reported that the Scottish Government held an emergency meeting over disruptions caused by Storm Floris. It reports that at least 119 rail incidents have been recorded.

Justice and Home Affairs Secretary Angela Constance, who attended the meeting, confirmed disruptions in the transport sector due to the wind.

She said:

“We are still in an amber warning, and the advice remains to stay well informed, keep yourselves and others safe and avoid travel if you can, until the danger has passed.
“Power cuts are affecting a significant number of properties, and while utilities companies are working hard to reconnect supply in the face of challenging conditions, this will undoubtedly take some time to complete. The weather is expected to improve tomorrow, but the recovery period – both to reconnect homes to power and get transport back to normal – will require some time to clear the debris. We will continue to receive updates throughout Tuesday and will have a better idea on public transport tomorrow morning.”

Homes left without power due to Storm Floris

Also, the BBC reported that many homes are still without power due to Storm Floris.

According to the British broadcaster, 950 homes remain without power in the north of Scotland.

It quoted Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks (SSEN), which said it had restored power to 71,000 households but that 950 remained cut off.

Andy Smith from SSEN said, per BBC: "Thanks to a huge, combined team effort, great progress has been made over the past 24 hours, with several thousand more customers being reconnected.
"This work goes on, and while it does, our operation to keep our customers, supported and informed continues too. I'd also like to thank people and businesses in the Inverness area for their generous response to our appeal for available accommodation for our engineering teams."
