Anih advises teachers to encourage students
She suggested that instead of writing discouraging comments, teachers could use phrases that encourage and nurture productivity.
She provided examples of alternative comments, such as: "You have great ideas, but let’s work on expressing them better. I believe in you, "You’re improving. Let’s keep building on this progress together."
Speaking further, she reiterated the need for teachers to be mindful of the language they use when providing feedback.
Anih's message on Facebook concluded with a reminder that teachers' words can have a great impact on students, long after grades have been forgotten.
In her words:
"Before You Write That Comment on a Student’s Script, Pause. Recently, I came across an exam script that went viral for its hilariously off-mark answer. It was funny, yes but not entirely. Beneath the laughter was a deeper concern. As teachers, we’ve all been there. You flip through a student’s answer sheet and wonder: What was this child thinking?

"Some answers are baffling. Some are cheeky. Some are just wrong. But here’s the real test not for the student, but for us. What do you write in the margin? What do you write on that report sheet? What comment will follow that child into the next term or perhaps, the next chapter of their learning journey? Dear teachers, In this season of grading and compiling results, let us pause and ask: Is my comment going to crush this child’s spirit or inspire growth?
"Will it discourage effort or nurture resilience? Yes, we must be honest. Yes, we must hold our learners to high standards. But honesty must never become hostility. Some comments carry the weight of a teacher’s frustration, not the student’s failure. And sometimes, without meaning to, we project our own burnout and disappointment onto a script, forgetting that a child is on the receiving end.

"Let’s rewrite that script. Instead of “Poor work. Very disappointing,” try: “You have great ideas, but let’s work on expressing them better. I believe in you.” Instead of “You can do better,” try: “You’re improving. Let’s keep building on this progress together.” Because the truth is our words don’t just grade, they shape.
"And if we truly believe in the power of education to transform lives, then our feedback must reflect that belief. Let your comments build. Let them encourage. Let them guide. Because long after the scores fade, children remember how we made them feel. Happy New week."
