Visible traces create parasocial attachment, expert says
As tributes continue to pour in, a clinical psychologist and mental health awareness advocate, Adeyinka Ogunremi, has provided insight into why the public often feels personally affected by the deaths.
Speaking with Legit.ng, Ogunremi said:
“When a tragedy is public and the person involved has left a visible trace like a video, post, or photo it creates a parasocial bond. We tend to feel connected, even if we never met them. This connection makes the loss feel personal. It becomes a startling reminder that life can change in seconds.”
