Wedding Guests’ Killing: Outrage as Court Grants Bail To Suspects

Kaduna state - Family members of the victims of the wedding guests' killing in Plateau state have expressed shock after the suspected killers were granted bail.
Legit.ng recalls that the State High Court sitting in Jos granted bail to the 20 suspects allegedly involved in the killing of 13 wedding guests.

The victims of the tragic incident are members of the Anguwar Danbami community in Kudan Local Government Area of Kaduna State.

The victims were killed while travelling in an 18-seater bus to attend a wedding ceremony in the Kwa community in Qua’an Pan LGA of Plateau state.
Mallam Abdullahi Tahir Balami, a close friend of the deceased groom's father, said the court’s decision is worrisome and suggested foul play.
“We received this news with great shock because we were made to believe that justice would be done. But with this development, we are now seriously questioning the commitment to dispensing justice to our relatives. It is saddening that suspects in a h@micide case can be granted bail by a court.”
Another resident, Mallam Ubale Anguwar Dantsoho, who lost family members in the attack, said they are worried they may not receive justice.
"It is highly unfortunate that our deceased family members may not receive justice. From the way the case is going, we are becoming deeply concerned."
Maryam Usman, the wife of the slain driver, expressed confusion over the bail granted to the suspects.
Usman said she could not comprehend what such a decision meant.
“We have now been thrown into despair. Instead of hearing good news from the court, since that is where justice is supposed to be dispensed, the court went ahead to grant them bail.
“It means our hope has been dashed. We are not likely to receive justice over the loss of our loved ones.”

Similarly, a traditional title holder in the Zazzau Emirate, Alhaji Mustapha Ubaidulla, lamented the court’s decision to grant bail to the suspects.
The Marafan Yamman Zazzau called on northern leaders to urgently intervene and ensure that justice is not denied.
Murdered groom's father, other wedding travellers buried
Legit.ng earlier reported that the 12 wedding guests killed in Mangu LGA, Plateau state, were laid to rest on June 21 at Hayi Muslim Cemetery.
Religious leaders said victims' relatives chose to bury them in Plateau to avoid sparking unrest in Zaria.
The Plateau state Governor called the incident a "senseless act of violence" and vowed that those responsible would face justice, stressing that criminality would not be tolerated.
