FCT, Abuja - The President Bola Ahmed Tinubu-led federal government has released the list of federal hospitals where dialysis costs ₦12,000.

The Ministry of Health and Social Welfare said the initiative is being piloted in 11 federal tertiary health institutions across the country, including the northwest.

The Deputy Director/Head, Information & Public Relations, Alaba Balogun, debunked the report that patients in the Northwest are excluded from its kidney dialysis subsidy scheme.

As reported by The Punch, Balogun made this known while reacting to reports suggesting otherwise on Wednesday, August 20, 2025.

Balogun explained that the cost of dialysis has been subsidized from N50,000 down to N12,000.

“Under the scheme, the cost of a dialysis session has been reduced from ₦50,000 to ₦12,000.
“This initiative, driven by the Renewed Hope Agenda, is part of the administration’s deliberate effort to provide relief for patients with kidney-related diseases while expanding access to universal health coverage.”

  • University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital, Borno state
  • Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital, Bauchi state
  • University of Jos Teaching Hospital, Plateau state
  • National Hospital, Abuja
  • Federal Medical Centre, Ebute Metta, Lagos state
  • University College Hospital, Ibadan, Oyo state
  • University of Benin Teaching Hospital, Edo state
  • Federal Medical Centre, Yenagoa, Bayelsa state
  • Federal Teaching Hospital, Owerri, Imo state
  • Federal Medical Centre, Abakaliki, Ebonyi state
This pilot phase will be expanded to cover more Federal hospitals across the country in due course, ensuring that no Nigerian is left behind in accessing life-saving dialysis services.”

Tinubu subsidises dialysis treatment in public hospitals

Legit.ng earlier reported that President Tinubu announced a subsidy for the treatment of kidney dialysis across selected hospitals in Nigeria.

Sunday Dare, a presidential spokesperson, shared the details of the development, including the revised fee, in a social media post.

The presidency explained that the subsidy would make it easier for millions of Nigerians who are fighting kidney-related diseases to access treatment.

Governor Fintiri announces free dialysis in Adamawa

In a similar story, Legit.ng reported that Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri purchased two CT scan machines, with one installed at the Specialist Hospital and the other set for the Numan General Hospital.

The Governor confirmed on his X handle that free dialysis treatment is ongoing, while a modern laboratory and OPD complex are set for completion.

Fintiri reiterated his commitment to upgrading hospitals across Adamawa, ensuring residents have access to modern healthcare facilities and improved medical services.
