Breaking: Mother of APC National Chairman is Dead, Details Emerge

Jos, Plateau state - The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, has lost his mother, Mama Lydia Yilwatda.

The sad news was confirmed in a statement issued on Sunday, August 17, in Jos by the party’s acting spokesperson in Plateau state, Shittu Bamaiyi.

APC confirms passing of chairman’s mother

Bamaiyi said the party received the news of Mama Lydia’s death with great shock and sadness, Vanguard reported.

He disclosed:

"She passed on this morning at the Jos University Teaching Hospital at the age of 83 years. Her death is not only a personal loss to the National Chairman, but also to the entire APC family in Plateau State and the country at large."

A painful loss to the Yilwatda family

Bamaiyi further noted that the death was especially difficult for Professor Yilwatda and his family.

"There is no doubt that the late Mama’s death is painful and devastating to the Yilwatdas, because she died at a time her motherly advice and prayers were most needed, particularly by the National Chairman," he said.

Describing Mama Lydia’s life, Bamaiyi praised her as a devoted Christian and a virtuous leader within the Church of Christ in Nations (COCIN).

"A devoted Christian, virtuous, humane and humble women leader, particularly in COCIN, the late Mama Lydia was known for her tireless and immeasurable efforts, along with her late husband Reverend Toma Goshewe Yilwatda, in boosting the Church in Borno, Yobe, Bauchi and Plateau States," he stated.

According to the APC, Mama Lydia’s greatest legacy lives on in the values and accomplishments of her children, Daily Trust reported.

"The consoling record is that the deceased left behind an indelible and accomplished legacy, which is manifested in her children. Surely, her demise is a great loss to the Church, the women fellowship and Plateau state," Bamaiyi added.

The APC expressed its solidarity with Professor Yilwatda in this period of mourning and prayed for Mama Lydia’s soul to rest in eternal peace.

Shehu Shagari's ally Ibrahim dies

Previously, Legit.ng reported that a prominent northern business mogul and elder statesman, Alhaji Isyaku Ibrahim, has died. He passed away in the early hours of Saturday, August 16, at a private hospital in Abuja, aged 88.

Ibrahim was a close associate of the late President Shehu Usman Shagari and played a pivotal role in the formation of the Second Republic ruling party, the National Party of Nigeria (NPN).

Beyond politics, Ibrahim left his mark on Nigerian sports. He was the founder of the Mighty Jets Football Club of Jos in the 1970s and became the first Nigerian to hire a foreign coach from Brazil to manage a local team.
