Full List of State and Federal Constituencies APC Won in Saturday’s By-Election

• The Independent National Electoral Commission conducted by-elections in 16 constituencies across 13 states to replace vacant legislative seats

Nigerians in 16 constituencies across 13 states went to the polls on Saturday to elect new representatives in the by-elections organised by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

The elections were held to fill legislative seats left vacant as a result of resignations and deaths of some serving members at both the national and state levels.

Across the states, the exercise covered two senatorial districts in Anambra and Edo, five federal constituencies in Edo, Jigawa, Kaduna, Ogun and Oyo, as well as nine state constituencies in Adamawa, Anambra, Kaduna, Kano, Kogi, Niger, Taraba and Zamfara.

APC wins 12 seats nationwide in by-elections

At the close of results compilation from different dailies, the All Progressives Congress (APC) secured victories in 12 out of the 16 available seats.

The ruling party’s performance saw it extend its dominance across different regions of the country. Elections held in Zamfara, however, were declared inconclusive.

9. Chikun/Kajuru Federal Constituency (Kaduna State)
10. Ganye Constituency (Adamawa State)
11. Edo South Senatorial District (Edo State)
12. Dekina-Okura II Federal Constituency (Kogi State).

The INEC has yet to announce a date for the re-run of the Zamfara elections.

Sanctions needed for electoral integrity ahead 2027 - Expert

As the All Progressives Congress (APC) secured 12 seats in recent by-elections across the country, democracy and governance expert Umar Muhammad Lawal has noted critical reforms INEC must implement ahead of the 2027 elections.

Lawal, in a chat with Legit.ng, emphasised the importance of accountability within the electoral process, stressing that both institutionally affiliated personnel and political actors must face consequences:

“Punish electoral offenders from both its ad hoc staff, staff, political parties and their candidates. This will show a strong signal that perpetrators will be adequately sanctioned.”

Defence Minister Badaru delivers polling unit

Earlier, Legit.ng reported that the All Progressives Congress (APC) had recorded electoral successes in two North-West states, Jigawa and Kano, following tightly contested by-elections held over the weekend.

At Polling Unit 002 of Babura Kofar Arewa Primary School in Jigawa, where the Minister of Defence Mohammed Badaru Abubakar voted, the APC polled 188 votes against the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), which secured 164.

Badaru, a former governor of the state, cast his ballot under heavy security presence but declined to speak with reporters before leaving the venue.

Confusion briefly arose when initial reports suggested the APC lost at the minister’s polling station. The mix-up was traced to results from Polling Unit 001, located within the same school but different from the booth where Badaru voted.

The by-election in Garki-Babura Federal Constituency witnessed strong security deployment, with personnel of the Nigeria Police, the Civil Defence Corps, and the Immigration Service stationed across the area.

Observers reported a peaceful atmosphere, while normal commercial activity continued in several towns within the constituency.

INEC urged to cancel Kano election

Earlier, Legit.ng reported that the APC asked the INEC to cancel the by-election for the Shanono/Bagwai region and the re-run election for the Ghari constituency in Kano.

In a statement issued signed by its national spokesperson Felix Morka, the party said the elections had been marred by 'extreme violence and disruption by armed thugs'.
