The federal government has taken steps to ease sanctions imposed on Fuji legend Wasiu Ayinde Marshal, popularly known as KWAM 1, following recent incidents involving ValueJet Airlines.
The minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, announced the measures after consultations with regulatory bodies, airline operators and other stakeholders in the sector.

FG reduces KWAM1 sanctions
According to the minister, the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) will cut KWAM 1’s flight ban from six months to just one month. This decision follows what authorities described as a public show of remorse by the music icon over his actions during the incident.
The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) will also collaborate with KWAM 1 in an ambassadorial capacity to promote adherence to airport security protocols.
Officials say the move aims to use his public influence to raise awareness about acceptable conduct in Nigeria’s aviation environment.
In addition, the NCAA will withdraw the criminal complaint earlier lodged against the musician with the police.
This action effectively ends the legal proceedings tied to the matter, although the minister made it clear that safety rules remain a priority and future breaches will be addressed firmly.
Keyamo talks tough on aviation rules
Keyamo explained that these decisions were reached on compassionate grounds, stressing that they are not an indication of government tolerance for violations of aviation laws.
He said the resolution came after engaging with multiple parties, including the leadership of the Airline Operators of Nigeria, who have been asked to support reconciliatory measures where appropriate.

The minister also announced broader reforms aimed at improving relations between air passengers and aviation personnel.
He said plans are underway for a retreat where aviation security officers will undergo retraining on how to handle unruly passengers and de-escalate tense situations. Airline staff conduct will also be examined to ensure customer service meets required standards.
While addressing the issue, Keyamo said the government intends to move forward after granting these concessions. He added that the aim is to balance enforcement of aviation rules with fairness where individuals show genuine remorse.
Nigerians react to Keyamo's announcement
Nigerians are still not happy with the fact that it takes a concerted public outcry before the authorities take steps in their desired direction.
Many believe Ibom Air's unruly passenger would not have been let off the hook if there had been no case of KWAM1 at all. Here are some of the reactions to the aviation head's announcement:

1. The public outcry is the main reason this concession is happening. As citizens, we cannot afford to keep quiet in the face of injustice. 2. As for you Festus, because you have to throw Wasiu Ayinde off the hook - that's the main reason you're responding to the case of Comfort with these concessions. This is an administrative flaw. 3. I am not surprised that you're making someone who commited a crime tantamount to terrorism an ambassador. EFCC once made Naira Marley, an arraigned fraudster an Ambassador. Your colleagues in the North are integrating terrorists into the Army. This is a systemic flaw.

Comfort should be punished for her crime, as well as KWAM 1, and anyone involved should also be charged according to the law. Dropping the charges against Comfort seems like a move to ease the criticism directed at KWAM 1 (Wasiu Ayinde Adewale). This isn't about getting justice, but an embarrassing attempt to downplay the seriousness of the situation. A pathetic move by the govt, like always."

This is fair enough but she should be released today, and not within the week."
@kenwills01 said:
You are under pressure to slam KWAM 1 with the appropriate legal action which could lead to his imprisonment that is why you have decided to let go of Ms Comfort’s unruly action. After reading through this your long epistle, you have not mentioned anything like COMPENSATION to Ms. Comfort after she was stripped naked to the whole world, an action which violates her rights and which is liable for huge monetary damages payment.
@healthertainer said:
Lol! I hope Ms comfort gets a good lawyer and sues. This is making it sound like you are letting her off lightly. She was assaulted and those who did that to her should pay. And whats this part apart? You want to make KWAM 1 an ambassador for proper airport security?"

What are you doing ??!!!! Because you don’t want to punish Kwam1 you’re letting go of the matter lol Nigeria we hail thee"
Reno Omokri warns Nigerians
Earlier, Legit.ng reported that Reno Omokri had lambasted Labour Party 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, over his stance on the recent Ibom Air incident.
Omokri alleged that Peter Obi is desperate to become president by describing the incident as a reflection of “double standards” in Nigeria’s justice system.
In a statement on Tuesday, Omokri explained the difference between the Kwam 1 airport incident and Ibom Air passenger Comfort Emmanson's saga.
