Authorities at Modibbo Adama University, Yola, are investigating after a newborn baby was discovered behind Block D of the institution's Oba Hostel. The incident has drawn shock and concern among students and staff.

Campus security identified a 100-level student named Favour as a suspect. She was handed over to the police for investigation.

Police give official account of event

Adamawa state police public relations officer, SP Nguroje, confirmed the report. He said the baby was already dead when discovered, and dogs had begun to maul the body before it was taken to hospital.

According to police findings, the student admitted she had been pregnant. She claimed she had taken a stomach ache pain reliever given to her by a friend and later felt something heavy in her womb while in the restroom, which she realised was the baby.

SP Nguroje said medical reports indicated it was a miscarriage, not an induced abortion. He explained that the student was suffering from excessive bleeding when arrested, and the Commissioner of Police directed that she be given medical care before any legal steps are taken.

The police spokesman added that investigations are ongoing and that the law would take its course if she is found culpable.

“The police are working with the school security to ensure the safety of students and uphold moral values in the society,” he said.

He urged young people to avoid behaviour that could endanger their health and jeopardise their education.

“Most parents work hard to provide quality education for their children. It is painful to see them misbehave,” he said, noting that the student’s elder brother was unaware of her pregnancy until the incident.

Brave man confronts armed robbers

Earlier in another report, a young couple had shared their harrowing experience after narrowly escaping an armed robbery by phone snatchers last month along Kofar Famfo Road in Kano.

The incident, which occurred around 8:00 pm, left the family traumatised but grateful to have survived unharmed.

The husband, Abduallahi Sani, speaking to Legit.ng correspondent in Kano recounted how the attack unfolded as they were returning from his wife’s family house with their one-year-old son.

He said:

"It was after a heavy downpour, and we were waiting for a tricycle when I overheard two men on a motorcycle speaking in coded language behind us, and I immediately felt something was wrong.”

“Before I could react, they blocked our path, and one of them jumped down with a knife,” he added.

Man arrested for lewd act

Earlier, Legit.ng reported that a 24-year-old man, Shamsu Yakubu, was arrested by Kano Hisbah after a viral video showed him engaging in an obscene act with a she-goat.

The suspect claimed the act was staged to gain social media attention, though he denied actual contact with the animal.

Hisbah officials condemned the act and ordered mental and drug evaluations, warning against eroding Islamic and moral values for online fame.
