KWAM 1 and Comfort Emmanson: FG Releases 5 Things Air Passengers Must Do
- The KWAM 1 saga and Comfort Emmanson with ValueJet officials, and that of Ibom Air, have led to the reorientation of air passengers in Nigeria
- While KWAM 1 has a physical confrontation with ValueJet officials at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja, Emmanson's situation became more devastating
- The NCAA, in a bid to reorient the public on using the airports in the country, has released five must-do things for air passengers in Nigeria
The federal government agency, the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), has released the guidelines that air passengers must follow when boarding a plane at the Nigerian Airports.
This came amid the controversies that followed the confrontation between King Wasiu Ayinde Marshall, popularly known as KWAM 1 or K1 De Ultimate and the officials of the ValueJet Airlines at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja on Friday, August 8.

There was a similar controversial development with another passenger identified as Miss Comfort Emmanson, also known as Comfort Bob, who allegedly assaulted both flight crew and ground staff during Ibom Airline Flight Q153 from Uyo to Lagos on 10 August 2025.
Taking to social media on Tuesday, August 12, the NCAA educated the public by explaining the five must-do things for air passengers at the Nigerian airports. Below is the list of things:
Arrive on time
The NCAA explained that passengers are expected to arrive at the airport two hours before taking a domestic flight and three hours before taking an international flight.
According to the federal government agency, this would give room for check-in, security and boarding properly.
Know the rules and have documents ready
The federal government urged air passengers to read and understand ticket terms and conditions before using the airports.
It then urged the users to come with a valid ID card, tickets, visas, travel documents, and required health certificates (when the passenger is sick or pregnant).

Follow the law and regulations, show respect and avoid interference
According to the NCAA, air passengers are to comply with all government, airport and airline rules. Passengers are urged to be courteous to staff and fellow passengers and are told to avoid behaviours that are unruly, abusive or harassing.
The government said that air passengers must not disturb the crew or interfere with the operators of an aircraft.
Switch off devices
Also, passengers are advised to switch off their mobile phones and other connecting devices during the flight.
The NCAA explained that this was for safety and respect for other passengers on board.
Report issues promptly
Air passengers are also urged to report any issues to staff immediately they arise.
The arising issues could be flight delay, damage, loss or stolen baggage, stating that they should be reported before leaving the airport.

Rules must be transparent and blind to status – Analyst
Lekan Olayiwola, a peace and conflict researcher, argued that Nigeria must fundamentally recalibrate how aviation spaces are governed.
The public-facing policy analyst told Legit.ng:
“Nigeria must rethink how it governs its aviation spaces. Enforcement must be uniform across all airports and social classes. A celebrity should not be treated differently from a student or trader. But the rules must be transparent to all alike.”
How to handle aggressive passengers
An expert in aviation protocol and passenger services has outlined the correct procedure for managing disruptive passengers.
“In accordance with standard aviation protocols, an aggressive passenger or one who has committed an offence is not permitted to disembark until all other passengers have safely exited the aircraft, after which they are formally handed over to security for investigation and further action,” the specialist told Legit.ng.
The expert, who requested anonymity, stressed the importance of crew preparedness:
“It is essential that airlines provide continuous, comprehensive training for cabin crew and frontline staff in customer relations, conflict resolution, and crisis management, alongside standard safety procedures. This approach ensures that incidents are addressed effectively, passenger safety is upheld, and the airline’s professional image is maintained, even in challenging circumstances.”
FG to discipline the airline that flies KWAM1
Legit.ng earlier reported that Festus Keyamo, the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, reiterated the government ban on popular Fuji musician, KWAM 1.
The minister, in a statement on Thursday, August 7, warned that local and international airline that flies the musician would be banned.
KWAM 1 reportedly attempted to fly with a liquid substance, which was resisted by the aviation security.
Editorial assistant Ololade Olatimehin provided exclusive commentary from a policy analyst as well as an aviation protocol expert for this report.
