Kano governor speaks on murder of aide
Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, the spokesperson to the governor, in a condolence message on behalf of Yusuf, described the deceased as a patriotic and dedicated social media professional whose sudden death has brought a dark cloud upon the state government and the media community.
Tofa noted that the news of Gentle's death hit him with anguish and sadness. The late governor's aide was then described as a devoted public servant who served the state with the utmost dedication. While Gentle's murder was described as a "tragedy and an affront to our collective humanity,” he was referred to as "a man of peace and integrity."
In strong words, the governor condemned the killing of Gentle and extended his condolences to the family, friends and relations of the deceased.
Governor Yusuf's commissioner resigns
Gentle's death came the day after Alhaji Ibrahim Ali Namadi, the commissioner for transportation in Kano, announced his resignation from Governor Yusuf's administration, citing public concerns over his alleged involvement in the bail of a suspected drug dealer, Sulaiman Aminu Danwawu.
The report indicated that Namadi's resignation came after the governor received the report of the investigating committee that probed his involvement in the controversial bail of Danwawu. The development was considered a major step in the government's commitment to transparency, integrity and public accountability.
Namadi's resignation was disclosed in a statement signed by Governor Yusuf's spokesperson, Tofa, on Wednesday morning, August 6, stating that the commissioner's action was based on the overriding interest of the public and the sensitive nature of the allegation.
