Tinubu Finally Congratulates Brilliant Yobe Girl Who Won Global English Prize
- President Tinubu has formally congratulated Nafisa Abdullahi Aminu and two other students for their global victories in the 2025 TeenEagle English competition
- This comes after public pressure and Isa Pantami’s call for official recognition of Nafisa’s historic win in English language communication
- The recognition follows widespread criticism that academic excellence is often overlooked, especially after Super Falcons received $100,000 rewards from the FG
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has formally extended his congratulations to three Nigerian students who distinguished themselves at the prestigious 2025 TeenEagle Global Competition in London, singling out Nafisa Abdullahi Aminu, a 17-year-old from Yobe State, who emerged as the overall best in English language communication skills worldwide.
In a statement released by his special adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the president praised Nafisa alongside two other outstanding students: 15-year-old Rukayya Muhammad Fema, who topped the debate category, and Hadiza Kashim Kalli, who won a gold medal for outstanding talent.

He described the girls' accomplishments as a reflection of the bright future that lies ahead for Nigeria, driven by the intellect and passion of its young citizens.
“Their success is a testament to the quality of Nigeria’s educational institutions and the determination of our young people,” the President noted.
He also reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to expanding access to education and supporting gifted students, citing the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) as a critical step in eliminating financial barriers for promising youth.
Pantami asks Tinubu to honour Yobe girl
Long before the presidential acknowledgement, there had been growing public pressure for national recognition of Nafisa’s extraordinary feat.
Among the early voices was that of former minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Isa Ali Pantami, who personally congratulated the teenager and called on the federal government to officially honour her.

Pantami’s appeal reflected broader sentiments across the country, particularly after the federal government awarded $100,000 and apartments to each member of the Super Falcons for their performance at the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations.
While the footballers’ victory was widely celebrated, many Nigerians questioned why academic brilliance of equal or greater significance had not received similar attention.
The contrast sparked a wave of commentary on social media, with citizens urging that excellence in education be placed on the same pedestal as sporting accomplishments.
The recent presidential statement has been viewed by many as a long-awaited response to that call.
