A retired Nigerian soldier has taken to social media to decry the perceived injustice in the way the federal government rewards its citizens as she expressed deep frustration over her retirement benefits after over three decades of military service.
The ex-military woman, who said she served in the Nigerian Army for 31 years, shared through a video posted on TikTok that she was handed N8 million as her retirement benefit, an amount she described as grossly insufficient.

According to her, the money isn't even enough to purchase a plot of land, let alone serve as a worthy compensation for a lifetime of national service.
“Imagine, I served for 31 years and they’re giving me ₦8 million that is not enough to buy a plot of land for myself. I served them, gave my life for them,” she said in the video.
She lamented further that many of her entitlements, such as parking allowances and Special Duty Allowance (SDA), remain unpaid despite being duly approved.

The ex-soldier, visibly emotional, contrasted the government’s treatment of military veterans with the recent reward of $100,000 to each member of the Super Falcons following their triumph over Morocco in the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations.

While she acknowledged the achievements of the footballers, she questioned the logic of prioritising entertainment over national security.
Another ex-soldier featured in the video displayed his hands, visibly deformed from years of combat, as he spoke on the sacrifices made during his 30-year service.
