Just In: Alleged Reasons Tinubu Appointed FCT Minister Wike Uncovered: "He Will Discard Him After"
- Ex-governor Sule Lamido claimed Tinubu appointed Wike as FCT Minister to secure political control of the South-South region
- Lamido warned Wike would become irrelevant once Tinubu solidifies dominance in states like Rivers, Akwa Ibom, Edo, and Delta
- He advised the ADC coalition to slow down, be strategic, and focus on building strength to challenge the APC effectively
Former governor of Jigawa state governor, Sule Lamido, has claimed that President Bola Tinubu appointed Nyesom Wike as minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) mainly to help him win political control of the South-South region.
Speaking on Prime Time, a programme aired by Arise Television on Tuesday, August 5, Lamido alleged that the appointment was a calculated political move, not a gesture of trust or merit.

“The whole appointment of Wike was to make sure Tinubu secures the South-South,” he said.
Tinubu now in control of South-South states
Lamido further stated that Tinubu has already succeeded in gaining influence in key South-South states like Akwa Ibom, Edo and Delta, with Wike maintaining a strong grip on Rivers State.
“So far, maybe by Tinubu’s personal manipulation or coercion, he has been able to win over Akwa Ibom, Edo and Delta states. Wike already has Rivers state,” Lamido said.
Wike’s days in office are numbered, Lamido warns
He warned that Wike’s relevance in Tinubu’s cabinet would likely fade once the president fully establishes political dominance in the region, Vanguard reported.
“By the time Tinubu is able to secure the South-South in his own basket, Wike will become irrelevant, and he will remove him.
“He appointed Wike for a purpose, gave him an office for a purpose; by the time the purpose is no more, that’s the end of it," he said.
ADC coalition should slow down and strategise

Commenting on the broader political scene, Lamido advised the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and other opposition coalitions to adopt a more thoughtful and strategic approach.
He criticised what he described as impatience and lack of depth among the coalition’s key players, The Cable reported.
“The coalition should be able to look at the issues and you need people who are calm, cool-headed and focused. Apparently, there are so many sprinters in ADC. They should be circumspect in the way they run,” he noted.
He added:
“Let them look inward and keep connecting with people quietly, so that by the time they come out in full force, the energy will be there.”
He urged the group to avoid rushing into actions and instead build a strong foundation that could challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
“I think there is too much rushing, there are too many sprinters there, they should slow down and look at issues in a deeper way, so that they will be able to remove this cancer called APC,” he concluded.
