Tears and grief have trailed the death of 26-year-old Nigerian, Ayowale Aladejana, who was fatally stabbed at his residence in New Cross, southeast London.

Following the tragic incident, detectives from the Metropolitan Police have charged two individuals with murder in connection with the killing.

In a statement released on Monday, the police said:

“Ben Wazabanga, 23 (24.10.2001) of Fairfax Road, Bedford, was charged with murder and possession of a knife on Monday, 4 August. He was remanded in custody and will appear at Croydon Magistrates’ Court on the same day.”

“Ronique Belfon, 23 (10.05.2002) of Morinsbury Road, Bedford, was charged with murder on Monday, 4 August. She was remanded to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Monday, 4 August.”

Detectives speak as investigation continues

Leading the investigation, Detective Chief Inspector Lucie Card expressed sympathy for the victim’s loved ones, Punch reported.

“Our thoughts are with Ayowale’s family and friends at this difficult time,” she said.

She assured the public of a thorough probe, saying:

“I understand this incident will be concerning, and we are carrying out a fast-paced and thorough investigation to establish the circumstances."
“I would encourage anyone who has not yet spoken to us to come forward.”

Victim died despite efforts from medics

The police launched an investigation after being called to a residential address in Monson Road, New Cross, at about 7:26pm on Saturday, 2 August, following reports of a man with stab wounds, Vanguard reported.

Officers arrived at the scene alongside the London Ambulance Service and medics from London’s Air Ambulance, but despite efforts to save him, Ayowale was pronounced dead at the scene.

Post-mortem confirms cause of death

A post-mortem examination conducted on Sunday, 3 August revealed that the preliminary cause of death was a stab wound to the chest.

Meanwhile, Ayowale’s grieving family is being supported by specially trained officers as they come to terms with the tragic loss of their son.

Police arrest wanted Abuja kidnapper

Meanwhile, Legit.ng reported that the police in Abuja recorded success in their efforts to ensure the FCT is safe and secure from criminal elements.

This is as the FCT police command disclosed that it had arrested two notorious criminals who are masterminds of deadly kidnapping activity in the area.

This came after Wike had offered an N20 million reward to volunteers with information that would aid the tracking and arrest of the kidnappers in the territory, and the residents responded.
